Fall Class Picture

I forgot to upload our class picture from before we left for the Thanksgiving holidays. I attempted to take several pics, all of which the kids kept hiding behind each other. This was the best out of 10 pictures. :)

Field Trip to the PUMPKIN Patch

My pre k children visited the pumpkin patch today in Corpus.We had a blast picking out pumpkins. They had so MANY to choose from, and many different colors, shapes and sizes. THANK YOU to all the parents that assisted with the transportation to and from the patch. You are all angels and greatly appreciated!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

Pumpkins! Pumpkins!

This project was so much fun. I cut strips of orange paper into 1 in. strips. I secured each end with a brad. Then the children fanned them out one at a time. We then added eyes and a mouth. The vine was made by wrapping a green pipe cleaner to a pencil.

Making Not So Scary Mummies :)

The children are very excited about the month of October. Many of them associating it with Halloween. I dont want to introduce many of the scary aspects of this holiday, therefore I have decided to make "not so scary" craftables for the month. We started with with a toilet paper roll craft we call the not so scary mummy.

 1 toilet paper roll
 2 googly eyes
 1 yrd. crepe paper
glue

First we painted out paper roll white. Then glued on 2 googly eyes. Finally we wrapped and wrapped and wrapped our crepe paper over and over again. All around the paper roll and putting a small amount of glue to secure the end. One of my students lost an eye, so he ended up with a one eyed mummy. Too cute. We had so much messy fun.

Parent Letter 10/11

Parents,

This week the children will be hearing the story of how God made a beautiful garden. Genesis 1:11-13; 2:8-17, 3:1-23 (continuation from last week…)

We are still discussing plants. Children will get the opportunity to plant a seed and watch it grow. We are counting from one to fifteen, and will be sorting objects by shape.

Bubble making fun

For our science lesson the children wanted to do an experiment. So we decided to try to make bubbles and something to blow them with. After hours of internet searching, I came up with this project. The children just loved it.
Bubble Blower
1 empty water bottle (any size)
1 old sock (any size)
1 rubber band
dishwashing liquid
water

Cut out the bottom of the water bottle, remove the plastic lid from the top and discard. (Or save like I do, for future projects :) put the toe part of the sock over the open end of the water bottle. Secure with the rubber band. Mix a small amount of dishwashing liquid, about 4 tbs to 1/2 cup water in a bowl. Dip the sock end into the liquid. Remove and blow away. Kids were so excited. They guessed that they would have small single bubbles, not a long strand of small ones linked together. It was awesome and so cool. :)

How to Make Chalk....

2 cups water
1/2 cups plaster of paris
2 tbs. tempura paint
paper cups

combine all ingredients. Mix well. Let mixture sit for  about 30 minutes, then mix again and pour into paper cups. I only poured small amounts, to make chalk wafers. I let it sit overnight. the next day I cut off the paper cup and pushed out the chalk. They were still somewhat soft, so i let them sit by the window still for another hour.

Parent Note 9/27

Parents,This week the children will be hearing the story of God’s creation of the heavenly bodies that light their world, they will marvel at the unique characteristics of the sun, moon, stars, and planets.

Wow we are almost in October. I feel like the month of August just flew right on by!! As we enter the 2^nd six weeks, I will be introducing the students to new Spanish vocabulary and short bible verses. They are picking up quickly so far, so I don’t see them having trouble with the new lessons. Continue to review the numbers 1-10 at home. We will start our handwriting practice in both alphabet letters and numbers this week as well.
Some parents were confused as to the way the discipline calendar works.
So I will explain:
Children are given a total of 4 warnings before their names are written on the board. On the fourth warning they are told that this will be the last and final warning. If they continue to be disruptive their name gets written on the board. One check mark next to their name means they will get a VW verbal warning written in the take home folder. Hitting, punching, fighting, ect. Will automatically get them a VW and a SL sitting the line during recess.
Example: :Jon this is your FIRST warning.
Jon this is your SECOND warning.
Jon this is your THIRD warning.
Jon this is your FOURTH and LAST warning before your name goes on the board under Mr. Sad L
Jon your name is on the board.
Jon you got a check mark, and your folder gets marked.

Center Time :)

The children love their center time a whole lot. We usually fill our day with too many hands on activities, that the only chance we have for center time play, is within the first 30 to 45 minutes of the day.

I found this pocket chart at our local teacher supply store. Essentially it is for the reading center, to keeps student books organized.
I needed a place to organize the completed work done by the students, and I thought this chart would work perfectly. The kids love having their pictures taken. So I put a picture of each student in the corresponding pocket. <3

Parent Teacher League Meeting 9/14/10

Thank You to all the students and parents that were able to attend the PTL meeting. Our class performance turned out very cute, despite all of our jitter bugs. :)

Parent Letter 9/20/10

God Frees His People Exodus 7:8-12:42


Parents,

This week the children will be hearing the biblical account of how God freed His people from the land of Egypt, they will be reminded of the wonderful freedom they enjoy in their country. The children will enjoy the thematic unit that incorporated freedom, flag, and country with this wonderful freedom story of God’s people, the Israelites.

We have started counting from one to ten. The children are picking up on everything very quickly. I am very proud of them. J Please continue to help your child at home with their fine-motor skills. This includes how to properly hold the scissors and pencil. We have been working on this in class, but extra help from home would be beneficial. I will randomly send home worksheets for cutting practice. Please send them back when completed so that I may track their progress.

Wax-Resist Names

The children had an awesome time with this project. I wrote their names on a white sheet of construction paper with a white crayon. The children then used watercolors to "uncover" their hidden names. They had alot of fun doing this.

First Month Of School

Well…..the first full month of school has been a learning experience, both for me and the children. It is so amazing how quickly pre-kindergarteners adjust to their new classroom and routines. They all come in quietly, put away their backpacks/lunches, and find their assigned play center independently. They also know what their name looks like and where to find it, and which spot is theirs on the carpet. Great work, pre-k!!

We have learned five new alphabet letters, the sounds and how to sign them in sign language. The pre primer site words that have also been introduced are; a, and, away. We will continue to build our vocabulary as the school year progresses. Aside from reading and language arts, we have learned a lot during our religion time. Currently the children are learning about Moses and how he helped God free the people of Egypt. The children enjoy acting out different parts of the story as we read it. Classroom art work and assignments are posted on any space available through out the classroom and on the windows. The children love having their art projects hung from the classroom ceiling and taped to the windows. Their least favorite thing to do in class, is naptime. Which they asked to be changed to “rest time.” Their reasoning behind the name change being, “it was hard to sleep when we are so excited about school.” I gave in. J

Also, a big thank you to all my parents. In my teaching experience, I have never encountered such a great group of parents. All of which are involved and help out in one way or another. The greatest of thanks. (especially in saving me items from my recycled supplies list!)
